Jewelry
We only use our own jewelry and adhere to strict quality guidelines set by the Association of Professional Piercers and the state of Nevada. While there are exceptions, please email us at info@emberpiercing.com to discuss.
While it's technically possible, most people face healing issues with this approach so we always recommend starting with a stud. We only recommend starting with rings for daith and septum piercings. Rings used for initial piercings need to be thicker and larger in diameter. This design choice helps prevent pressure on the piercing. After your piercing has completely healed, you have the option to switch to thinner and better-fitted jewelry if you prefer.
Piercing
Contrary to common belief, piercing infections are less frequent than one might imagine. The prevalent experience tends to be irritation, occasionally marked by the presence of bumps or bubbles. It's essential to steer clear of homemade remedies for addressing these issues. Instead, focus on pinpointing and eliminating the root cause of the irritation, leading to the resolution of the bump. This trigger could encompass aspects such as jewelry quality and size, improper aftercare, moisture accumulation, inadvertent trauma like sleeping on or accidentally bumping the piercing, and occasionally, a subpar initial piercing procedure. Should worries arise, don't hesitate to reach out to your piercer (or even to us!). They can offer guidance on whether your situation necessitates medical evaluation.
Yes, at Ember we only pierce those who are 18 years old and older.
Downsizing means swapping the initial longer piercing backing, which accounts for swelling, with a snugger one. This helps healing by reducing movement. While not all piercings need it, downsizing can prevent catching and discomfort from extended posts. For placements like flat or helix piercings, downsizing in 4-6 weeks prevents angle shifts. Once an angle shifts, it's tough, if not impossible, to correct without removing the piercing.
We recommend refraining from using numbing cream before your appointment. Regrettably, numbing cream only impacts the outer layers of skin and can't reach the depths needed to fully numb the procedure. Moreover, it could potentially affect tissue structure and lead to unnecessary swelling.
Keep the first jewelry piece in place throughout the healing period. Once the piercing is fully healed, you're free to switch your jewelry. Earlobes take about six to eight weeks, while cartilage requires a minimum of six to twelve months before changing.
In many cases, fully healed earlobe piercings can remain open, even without jewelry, for a year or more , whereas cartilage piercings might take notably more time. A useful guideline: if you wish to maintain your piercing, ensure there's something in it.
